4. SEC ties with connections across the country

Starting with his family pedigree, Danny White has quite a few connections. He is the brother of Florida Gators men’s basketball coach Mike White and Florida Atlantic athletic director Brian White. His sister works in the athletic department of the SMU Mustangs, and he is the son of Duke Blue Devils athletic director Kevin White.

However, that alone wouldn’t be much of a selling point. What works for White is how national his connections go. By spending six years in Florida and four in Buffalo, White has major ties up and down the East Coast.

Before even becoming an athletic director, those ties are deep. White played basketball for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and earned multiple master’s degrees from the University of Ohio before earning his doctorate from Ole Miss. That cements his ties to the Midwest and SEC country as well, both of which are important.

White also spent time out west working at Fresno State University. Simply put, he’s been in every region of the country, and as a native of New Orleans who has worked in Mississippi and Florida, he knows the land of the SEC as well. These are all major bonuses for the Tennessee Vols.
