Does anybody need more proof that Tennessee football sells itself? The Vols are without a head coach and just hired an athletic director, but in the process, they received a commitment from a junior college prospect in their 2021 recruiting class.

Wide receiver Andison Coby, a 2021 prospect out of Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Miss., announced his commitment to UT Friday evening. Despite not being rated on 247Sports, Coby, initially out of Florida, is a three-star on Rivals and stands between 6’0″ and 6’2″ while weighing somewhere between 170 and 180 pounds.

According to Ryan Callahan of GoVols247, Coby, who was originally a product of Deerfield Beach High School in Deerfield Beach, Fla. and then played at American Heritage High School in Delray Beach, Fla., will be an early enrollee for Tennessee football. He announced his commitment to Rocky Top on Twitter.

Although he is listed as a wide receiver, Coby could also play safety. Depending on who takes over as head coach, his versatility provides options for the program. He also will have at least three years of eligibility with the program.

Callahan reports that interim UT head coach Kevin Steele targeted Coby. It’s interesting to think about what will become of Steele on Rocky Top, but you have to think securing commitments from players indicates that he’ll stay on board no matter what.

In six games at Northeast Mississippi, Coby caught 24 passes for 422 yards and seven touchdown while averaging 38.3 yards on four kickoff returns and running one back 98 yards for a touchdown. Here is a look at his highlight reel from high school.

As you can see, Coby has incredible vision and an amazing ability to stay with the ball. That’s a huge deal in SEC play, although he may have a bit more to prove when it comes to his ability to win one-on-one battles.

Either way, Tennessee football securing a commitment from such a player is a big deal. The Vols’ 2021 class, despite being in the midst of a coaching change, hasn’t completely collapsed and Coby’s commitment is a testament to the program’s prestige.
