Record with UCF Knights (prior to 2020-2021): 89-40

  • 1 NCAA Tournament (2019 First Round)
  • 2 NITs (2017, 2018 Second Round)

When Danny White took over the UCF Knights, the women’s basketball program had built a brand under Joi Williams. However, similar to many other sports programs in Orlando, this program had not yet seen a winning season after moving into the American Athletic Conference in 2013-2014.

By the time White had arrived in November of 2015, Williams had already gone through four straight losing seasons, including two in Conference USA, since her most recent NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011. After going 7-23 White’s first year as AD, he had an easy decision to make to move on from her.

The hard decision, though, was hiring the next head coach. Well, familiar with sports in Upstate New York, White turned to Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, who won five straight American East Tournaments and four straight American East Regular Season Championships, making five straight NCAA Tournaments, in six years with the Albany Great Danes.

Immediately, Abrahamson-Henderson turned around UCF. In her first four years, she won more than 20 games all four times and made the NIT her first two years. She made the NCAA Tournament in 2019 with a 26-7 record and likely would have made it in 2020. Simply put, she has turned around the program and one of White’s best hires.
