With their highest ranking in both polls all season, the Tennessee Lady Vols have their first game against an opponent not currently at least receiving votes in the top 25 in over two weeks. After going 2-2 in those games, this could finally be considered a bit of a breather for them.

Heading into Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. are the Ole Miss Rebels for a Thursday night matchup, the third of a four-game home stand for Kellie Harper’s team. UT comes into the game ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, up from No. 25 last week in the AP Poll and unranked in the Coaches Poll.

Rocky Top is coming off a huge 17-point Sunday win over the Kentucky Wildcats, currently ranked in the top 15 of both polls. Ole Miss, meanwhile, comes in off a 10-point loss to the Florida Gators and is on a four-game losing streak. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup.

Led by third-year head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, Ole Miss appears to finally be taking a step forward. After going 9-22 and 7-23 her first two years in Oxford, Miss., the Rebels are benefitting from three newcomers into their starting lineup who are the three players averaging double-figures this year on the team, two of whom are transfers.

Maryland Terrapins transfer Shakira Austin is the team’s leading scorer at 17.3 points and over seven and a half rebounds per game. Donetta Johnson, who transferred from the Georgia Bulldogs, is playing after sitting out last year and is averaging 12.3 points per game.

Recruiting and returning starters are also helping. Five-star freshman Madison Scott is averaging 11.3 points and nearly six and a half rebounds per game. Mimi Reid is the veteran distributor for this new talent and averaging over five assists a game.

Simply put, McPhee-McCuin has put together her team now, and it’s coming together. As a result, despite the skid, UT has to watch out for this team. They did only lose by four to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on the road.
