Tennessee Lady Vols makeup game at Texas A&M set for Feb. 7
On Sunday, Feb. 7, the Tennessee Lady Vols will finally be able to make up their SEC opener. Kellie Harper’s team will travel to College Station, Texas to take on the Texas A&M Aggies, a team they were initially scheduled to face on Dec. 31.
This is one of two makeup games that day announced Saturday morning by the SEC. The other will be the Missouri Tigers at Auburn Tigers, which was initially set for for Jan. 10. Mizzou and Auburn will face off at 1 p.m. ET, and UT will face A&M will take on each other at 3 p.m. ET. Both games will be on SEC Network.
Ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, the Tennessee Lady Vols will play their second makeup game of the year that day. Their first was last Sunday, Jan. 24, against the Kentucky Wildcats, which was initially set for Jan. 3. They won that game 70-53.
Both the Texas A&M and Kentucky games were postponed due to a COVID outbreak within the UT program. The Lady Vols were initially set to face the Vanderbilt Commodores on Jan. 24, but Vandy shut down its season due to COVID, which has allowed the league to rearrange some of these games and make these makeup games possible.
Given this new schedule, next Thursday, UT will open February up with three straight road games all against ranked teams. They first visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs, ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll. A&M, meanwhile, is ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.
After both of those games, Rocky Top has a rematch with Kentucky on the road. UK is ranked No. 15 in the AP Poll and No. 14 in the Coaches Poll. Before any of those games, though, the Tennessee Lady Vols have to get past the Florida Gators on Sunday, Jan. 31.
