3. Wide receiver: B

Number of signees: 2 (3 with Kaemen Marley, 4 with Andison Coby)

Regardless of what happens with Andison Coby and Kaemen Marley, Tennessee football again did a pretty good job here. Now, to be fair, the losses were critical. Josh Palmer graduated and entered the NFL Draft. Brandon Johnson, ironically, transferred to the UCF Knights.

The Vols offset those guys with the addition of Walker Merrill, who is a four-star across the board. Now, he alone wouldn’t offset Palmer and Johnson. However, Julian Nixon, another commitment, is a four-star on 247Sports and ESPN. Combined with some of the rising stars already in the program, that’s enough quality to make for a solid above average grade.

Obviously, the quantity is there too with two guys. When it comes to Coby, the signing status is up in the air. The junior college transfer is listed as committed but not signed on Rivals, and he doesn’t show up on the UTSports official Signing Day 2021 roster yet. As a result we don’t know his status. However, as a three-star across the board, he boosts the grade a bit.

Then there’s Kaemen Marley. We mentioned the possibility that he would play defensive back. Well, he could also play wide receiver. If that happens, then the Vols may have even upgraded at the position with this class.
