Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 839. Quarterback. Cedar Hill, Texas. Kaidon Salter. 4. player

Cedar Hill High School

Obviously, the quarterback position is wide open this year. Jarrett Guarantano transferring to the Washington State Cougars, J.T. Shrout transferring to the Colorado Buffaloes and a new offensive system coming to Tennessee football makes that clear. Where it goes, though, is up in the air.

Although Harrison Bailey and Brian Maurer both have starting experience and are the only returners, that doesn’t mean the new staff will want them. They’ll have as much of a chance as Virginia Tech Hokies graduate transfer Hendon Hooker. Maurer and Hooker are dual-threat quarterbacks, and Bailey is a drop-back passer.

Then you have Kaidon Salter. The Texas quarterback is a dual-threat as well who stands somewhere between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighs somewhere between 180 and 185 pounds. He is also a four-star across all services and brings a ton of potential to Rocky Top.

Taking that into account, Salter is as much in the running to win the job this year as anybody. Considering Josh Heupel’s experience with different types of quarterbacks, he doesn’t necessarily have a built-in advantage, but if he’s accurate, his overall abilities make him perfect for the system. As a result, he’s definitely one of the guys with a chance to play early in 2021.
