Coming off a solid 89-81 win over the Georgia Bulldogs without Yves Pons Wednesday, Tennessee basketball takes the court again Saturday for another solid test. The Vols will try to knock off a team that has beaten them each of the past two years.

Ranked No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll, UT travels to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La. to face the LSU Tigers. This place in Louisiana is where Rick Barnes’ team lost the regular season SEC Championship in 2019. They will finally be looking to get revenge, as that could be at stake again.

LSU comes into this game after beating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 94-80 on Wednesday to end what was a two-game losing streak. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s third road trip on four games.

Led by fourth-year head coach Will Wade, LSU has suffered a clear regression from its last two teams, which went 25-5 and reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2018-2019 before going 21-10 in 2019-2020. However, they are still a dangerous team.

The loss of leading scorer Skylar Mays, who is currently with the Atlanta Hawks, and Emmitt Williams, certainly hurt that. Returning three starters, though, has been helpful. All three of them, Trendon Watford, Darius Days and Javonte Smart, are averaging double figures. Then there’s the addition of five-star guard and current leading scorer, freshman Cameron Thomas.

Simply put, this team still has talent and a good bit of experience. As a result, if the Vols aren’t careful, they could suffer another loss. They may be better equipped with their five-star guards than in previous years to handle Wade’s up-tempo system, but they’ll have to be ready for it, particularly if Pons returns and Barnes goes big again.

After this game, Tennessee basketball returns home to host the South Carolina Gamecocks Tuesday. LSU will be off for a week before hosting the Auburn Tigers next Saturday. Since both teams have the same conference record and could still be in play for the regular season SEC Championship game, this is a huge matchup.
