Wide receivers. Volunteers . Kodi Burns. 4. player. 839.

Replacing Tee Martin as the program’s new wide receivers coach is Kodi Burns. Burns, who played WR at Auburn University from 2007-2010, also coached the Tigers’ wideout group under Gus Malzahn from 2016-2020.

While coaching on The Plains, Burns developed Darius Slayton into an NFL receiver and coached Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz into two of the top wide receivers in the SEC last season. Prior to his time on Auburn’s sidelines, he coached running backs at Samford University in 2014 and wide receivers at Middle Tennessee State in 2015.

All of the former Auburn players we mentioned above will be in the NFL by the end of this spring. Burns now has a very talented group of athletes eager to make the NFL in UT’s WR room. There’s a very good chance Velus Jones Jr., Jalin Hyatt, and Malachi Wideman all eventually join Burns’ list of former players turned pro.

Simply put, Burns is a guy Tennessee football fans should be ecstatic about. He holds his own on the recruiting trail, is loved by his players and most importantly, draws results from them. Combine that with his SEC experience, and he brings a lot to the table for Heupel.
