Tennessee football: Top 10 out-of-state 2022 prospects for Vols to pursue
6. Jaylen Sneed
LB; Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Sticking with linebackers, we move on to a guy who is not in a neighboring state but doesn’t have one analyst predicting where he will go just yet. Just like Daniel Martin, he would immediately help to solve a major depth problem at this position on Rocky Top.
Coming out of Hilton Head High School in South Carolina, Jaylen Sneed could help Tennessee football re-establish a pipeline into that state. Three of the six defensive linemen in the rotation on the 1998 national championship team were from there, including the two best who went on to have successful NFL careers, Darwin Walker and Shaun Ellis.
Standing somewhere between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighing between 207 and 215 pounds, Sneed is also an outside linebacker. However, he is closer to the necessary size to play the position in the SEC already, and like we said, there are no predictions for him yet. Those two things put him slightly above Martin on our list.
If Rocky Top is going to truly rebuild its defensive depth under Josh Heupel, it could really use one of these guys. Obviously, finding a way to land both of them would be a huge coup, but one of them could be a big help.
