4. The current NCAA investigation casts a cloud over recruiting.

Newsflash to everybody worried about these quarterbacks going elsewhere. Tennessee football still doesn’t have any recruits committed for 2022. Multiple elite athletes in the state have also already committed elsewhere, including Taylor Groves and Kody Jones, both of whom chose the Michigan Wolverines earlier this month.

Right now, it’s just hard to pick up recruits with the NCAA investigation into the program over what happened under Jeremy Pruitt still going on. The good news for UT is that the investigation could come to an end soon. Based on comments from Chancellor Donde Plowman said on Vol Calls recently, the investigation should be wrapped up at some point in March.

Once that comes to an end, good or bad, the Vols will have a lot more to work with on the recruiting trail. They’ll be able to level with the players on what the program is facing, and if it’s not facing any probation, then there won’t be any problem.

Recruiting is going to look much worse over these next few weeks than it will look the rest of the way because of that cloud hanging over the program. These quarterbacks committing elsewhere are just a part of that, but they won’t be permanent.
