9. Blaine Hipa

Ewa Beach, Hawaii (James Campbell High School)

Leaving the continental U.S. for a prospect, three-star pro-style quarterback Blaine Hipa is currently listed nationally as the 1,071 player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He is rated as the No. 5 overall player in the state.

Hipa, whose only two FBS offers include Tennessee football and the University of Hawaii, is eerily similar to another quarterback Heupel has worked closely with. Just like Dillon Gabriel, the UCF Knights’ QB in 2020, Hipa is a Hawaiian-born left-handed quarterback with defined accuracy and poise in the pocket.

In 2020, under Heupel’s leadership, Gabriel was top-five in the nation in passing yards (3,570) and passing touchdowns (32). He also completed 60 percent of his passes and had a 156.3 passer rating while only conceding four interceptions over 10 games. If Heupel was able to pull that kind of production with Gabriel, could he do the same here with Hipa?

For that we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, Hipa will look to collect a few more offers from power five college programs and rise through the national recruiting ranks. However, don’t be surprised if the Vols’ coaching staff takes a shot at the Hawaiian signal-caller.
