7. Destin Wade

Hometown: Spring Hill, Tenn. (Summit High School)

Months from now, when the class of 2022 is signed and ready to take on college football, Destin Wade is a name that must be a part of Tennessee football’s recruiting haul. Things appear to be trending in the right direction for the in-state Vols as Wade, the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the country, listed UT in his top schools in February.

Wade, whose brother Keaten is also a major in-state target for Josh Heupel and his staff, has all of the makings of a next-level impact player. It’s not often that high school quarterback recruits are also listed as athletes, but that’s just a testament to how versatile Wade has been for Summit High School.

Keep in mind, Jauan Jennings was a quarterback as a high school recruit and he panned out pretty well away from the position. Whether the Vols recruit Wade for under center or elsewhere on the field, getting him to sign his name will be no easy task.

The 6’3″ 205-pound quarterback has offers from other SEC schools such as Kentucky, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. He also listed notable power five programs such as Virginia Tech and Penn State in his top schools.

One way or another, Heupel will have to sell Wade on developing as a college athlete in Knoxville. Missing out on Ty Simpson and Sam Horn were understandable losses, but letting Wade slip would be a catastrophic blunder.
