Tennessee football: Top 10 QBs still available for 2022
5. Chad Mascoe
Hometown: Kissimmee, Fla. (Osceola High School)
On a list of interesting names to watch for in the 2022 recruiting cycle’s quarterback class, Chad Mascoe is a very intriguing prospect for a number of reasons. The former Florida State Seminoles commit is currently rated as the nation’s No. 364 overall prospect and the No. 15 pocket passer.
Mascoe, whose father played linebacker at UCF, was offered by the Knights in 2019 when Heupel was the head coach at Central Florida. Around that time in 2019 is when he was offered by Tennessee football. UT’s coaching staff needs to close that gap and assure the talented quarterback he’d be most valuable in Knoxville, not Orlando.
The four-star Floridian also has offers from Indiana, Auburn and Georgia. That should come as no surprise for a player who earned Freshman All-American honors and threw for over 2,200 yards in 2018. However, Mascoe tore his meniscus and missed the majority of his sophomore season at IMG Academy, putting the brakes on his recruiting momentum for quite some time.
Could this be another diamond in the rough for Heupel and Halzle to potentially snag? It certainly appears that way, especially taking into account he’s played three years of high school football at three different schools and still holds offers from three SEC programs. Mascoe’s talent is there, but whether he’ll find a way into Tennessee football’s 2022 recruiting class remains to be seen.
