Tennessee football: 10 senior Vols who need a good spring practice

Right now, Tennessee football linebackers have a rare opportunity. The new coaching staff is desperate for players there with the Quavaris Crouch, Henry To’o To’o and J.J. Peterson all in the transfer portal and redshirt freshman Martavius French suspended along with early enrollee Aaron Willis. All five of those guys were once four-stars coming out of high school.
With all of them out of the way right now, somebody else has a chance to showcase their abilities, even as the available slots narrow with Tim Banks going from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and installing more of a nickel base, which would make for more of a 4-2-5. Either way, Solon Page III, a fifth-year senior, has his best chance to work his way into the rotation.
The product of Kell High School in Georgia will still be competing with guys like Jeremy Banks, Aaron Beasley and Bryson Eason for that inside linebacker spot. But he committed to Butch Jones and Bob Shoop, so he is returning to a system he is familiar with.
For his career, Page only has eight total tackles. However, he could break out now. This is his chance. He needs to outshine everybody else in the spring by a mile, though, because those three transfers could return, and the other two suspended players could be reinstated. If he doesn’t stand out now, then he’ll be behind five other guys in fall camp.
