Tennessee football: 10 senior Vols who need a good spring practice
6’2″ 240 pounds
Sean Brown, Jackson Lowe and Jordan Allen all entering the transfer portal cleared the way more for Tennessee football’s senior tight ends. Princeton Fant was the main receiving tight end last year, stepping in to replace Dominick Wood-Anderson. The in-state product of LaVergne High School had 12 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Theoretically, the arrival of Josh Heupel should allow the fifth-year senior to shoulder even a larger role, although when he first committed to UT and played in another spread offense, he was a running back. Now, settled into his new role, he could thrive.
Fant has to compete with other guys, though, including younger players like Jacob Warren and another fellow veteran. Then there is early enrollee Miles Campbell. However, a big reason Fant needs to stand out is due to the potential that Trinity Bell will join the team as a tight end.
At 6’7″ 250 pounds, Bell flirts between tight end and defensive end. If he moves to tight end when he arrives during fall camp, he’ll get much more of a look than Fant will. That makes it crucial for Fant to stand out in the spring and let Heupel know he’s got the receiving tight end spot locked up.
