Tennessee football: 10 senior Vols who need a good spring practice

No matter what happened, offensive line was going to be a position up for grabs this year. However, we didn’t list it as one of Tennessee football’s top position battles for the spring because two more linemen are arriving in the summer, one of whom is a junior college transfer in Jeremiah Crawford. The other is Amari McNeill.
Given those facts, all senior linemen need to be on notice. Of them, though, Cade Mays is probably the safest. The Georgia Bulldogs transfer is the most versatile lineman up front, and with a full offseason, he should probably be fine.
It’s not like he was blindsided by the idea of playing in a spread in college either, as he had initially committed to Butch Jones out of Knoxville Catholic High School back in 2017 before flipping his commitment to UGA, where he signed in 2018. Mays started seven games last year, and with Trey Smith and Brandon Kennedy gone and Wanya Morris transferring, he’s likely locked into a role.
Still, the changing system, arrival of William Parker in the spring and two more linemen coming in the fall means he’ll have to compete for a role. To make sure he doesn’t fall behind, he needs to stand out in the spring and live up to his five-star billing.
