For numerous Tennessee Vols spring sports right now, postseason play is underway. Even if they are minor sports, it’s a refreshing feeling given what happened last year. At this point in 2020, everybody was still stuck in quarantine.

Our morning update on Rocky Top includes coverage of three different sports in SEC Tournaments or SEC Championships. Two of them begin today, and one began Tuesday. We’ll track all of them throughout the week to see how UT performs.

There is still regular season coverage as well, as baseball had another outing Tuesday, and we have individual awards to cover with softball. However, football and men’s basketball actually lead the way with separate interviews. Let’s start with those.

John Fulkerson talks returning to UT – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Last week, Tennessee Vols men’s basketball forward John Fulkerson announced he would return for a sixth year of eligibility. On Tuesday, he spoked about his decision and talked about what went into it. Fulkerson revealed he had COVID-19 this past season and that it affected his play. Here is a bit of what else he said.

"“I think the biggest thing I’m excited for about this team, is our team chemistry and team-bonding opportunities just because I felt like last year COVID really inhibited us for hanging out as a team and creating our team chemistry and team-bonding experiences. I think hanging out off the court, and things such as team meals, movies, events, and things like that, help you just as much off the court getting to know each other, as it does on the court.”"

Brian Jean-Mary talks linebackers – Brent Hubbs, VolQuest

Spring ball continued for the Tennessee Vols football team Tuesday as they get set for Saturday’s Orange and White game. Linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary talked about the development of players at that position in a media session. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“As far as on the individual level, you have a bunch of guys that are athletic, have a lot of hunger and are just trying to learn football right now. They’ve gotten better. The transformation from the first practice to this last one being practice No. 12 has been amazing. I’m very proud of those guys.”"

Baseball squeaks by Tennessee Tech – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

Although the Tennessee Vols baseball team dropped two of three to the Vanderbilt Commodores this past weekend, Evan Russell was named the Golden Spikes Award Player of the Week. Against that backdrop, UT improved to 30-8 Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. They will next visit the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend.

"A walk-off single by Max Ferguson lifted Tennessee to victory Tuesday night. Ferguson’s game winning hit broke a tie and helped the No. 5 Volunteers notch a 3-2 victory over Tennessee Tech at Lindsey Nelson Stadium."
