3.) Los Angeles Chargers

Sticking with teams that can’t run the ball, the Los Angeles Chargers need any help they can get on the offensive line. A guy like Trey Smith would bring that immediate help. Now, the Chargers aren’t likely to look for offensive line help first, as they need another big target in the passing game and a focus in the trenches on defense.

However, that could mean that Smith, based on his merits, is taken above one of those needs in the second round of the NFL Draft, and the former Tennessee football lineman is certainly looking like a second round pick at this moment. New head coach Brandon Staley does have a connection to Tennessee football as well. He spent 2012 there as a graduate assistant.

Could that play in Smith’s favor? It might. On the field, Los Angeles was third from worst in the league in yards per carry average at 3.8, which was 0.01 yards below what the Miami Dolphins averaged. That alone is concerning enough for LA and shows they need help.

Now, Staley is suggesting the bigger issue for Los Angeles is at left tackle, and he may be right on that front. However, Smith has proven he can play on the outside as well, so his versatility could prove to be incredibly valuable if he does land in California.
