Scouting Report. 2017 Round 4 No. 124. Jalen Reeves-Maybin. 4. player. 50. Pick Analysis. Linebacker

Draft Grade: B+

Clarksville, Tenn. native Jalen Reeves-Maybin was an under-the-radar linebacker prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft cycle. A four-star prospect in Tennessee football’s 2013 recruiting class, Reeves-Maybin racked up 149 solo tackles and eight sacks through four seasons in Knoxville.

The Detroit Lions needed help defensively when they selected Reeves-Maybin in the fourth round of 2017’s selection process. And while they still need assistance on D, they’ve made it clear that they like what they’ve seen from Reeves-Maybin four years into his career. Earlier this year, the Lions re-signed him to a one-year contract worth $2.3 million.

Reeves-Maybin, who has appeared in 55 games for the Lions from Motor City, has compiled 70 solo tackles and two forced fumbles. He appeared in every game for Detroit in 2020, and though he’s not among the tackle leaders in the linebacker group, he’s a valuable and reliable contributor in the rotation. His efforts don’t go unnoticed.

As we’ve seen with some of the other names on this list, not every player lasts more than 2-3 seasons with their original group. With Reeves-Maybin beginning year five in Detroit on a new contract, there’s no questioning that the fourth-round pick the organization used to select him in 2017 was put to good use.
