Tennessee Vols morning report: Future football game announced
With spring practice having just finished and the NFL Draft one day away, there is plenty to talk about with the Tennessee Vols. A couple of spring sports still going on makes it even easier, even if offseason news dominates today’s headlines.
Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with a scheduling tidbit for the football program. They made an announcement Tuesday about a future game. Speaking of the future and offseason news, a new women’s basketball coaching hire is official, which we’ll also discuss.
Volleyball is another offseason sport we’re covering today, and it deals with multiple newcomers. Plenty of other Tennessee Vols in-season sports made news too, including a shocking loss in baseball and a scheduling update in softball. Multiple softball awards also made news. Rematch with West Virginia set for 2028 – Charlotte Sports Foundation
A decade after they met for the first time and kicked off the Jeremy Pruitt era to open the 2018 season, the Tennessee Vols football team and West Virginia Mountaineers will face off in Charlotte, N.C. again in 2028. UT fell in their last meeting 40-14.
"West Virginia will be designated the home team for the game at Bank of America Stadium. The game is set for Saturday, September 2, 2028."
Women’s basketball confirms new assistant – Maria M. Cornelius, GoVols247
Florida State Seminoles assistant coach Joy McCorvey has officially joined the Tennessee Lady Vols. Kellie Harper and the program made the hire official Tuesday.
"The news about McCorvey broke Monday and followed the arrival last week of Samantha Williams. In two weeks, Harper has hired two proven recruiters who also are all-around coaches who relate well to players and can scheme, game plan and scout."
Baseball falls to Lipscomb – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com
In a shocker, the Tennessee Vols baseball team lost a midweek matchup to the Lipscomb Bisons. UT fell to 32-10 on the year and will next host the Kentucky Wildcats for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.
"The No. 4 Volunteers stranded 13 runners on base in a 4-1 midweek loss to Lipscomb in a game where all scoring occurred in the first two innings.The Bisons (14-22) took a 1-0 lead when Malik Williams had an RBI double that scored Tiger Borom."
Ashley Morgan named SEC Player of the Week – SECSports
It was a day of recognition for Ashley Morgan of the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team. For the second straight week and third time this year, she earned SEC Player of the Week. She also earned Top Performance honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
"Tennessee’s Ashley Morgan, a senior first baseman from Douglasville, Ga., batted .600 (6-for-10) to help the Lady Vols earn the series win at No. 21/22 Georgia. Morgan tallied three doubles, a solo home run, two runs scored and six RBI over the three-game series."
Softball series with Mississippi State rescheduled – UT Daily Beacon
Originally scheduled for April 9 through April 11, a new date has officially been set for the Tennessee Lady Vols softball make-up series with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The two will face off in a doubleheader on Wednesday May 5.
"The Bulldogs won their first and only game of SEC play last Saturday against Texas A&M by a score of 8-1. Tennessee will look to take advantage of a MSU squad that can’t seem to get anything going at this point in the season."
Two volleyball signees announced – UTSports
On Tuesday, Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball head coach Eve Rackham announced two new signees to the roster. Klaudia Pawlik and Nicole Shanahan have officially joined the program.
"Both players add significant size to the roster, with Pawlik measuring 6-4 and Shanahan standing at 6-2. Pawlik and Shanahan will arrive on Rocky Top this summer."
