Despite nobody taken in the first round, the Tennessee Vols have players expected to be taken in the NFL Draft over the next two days as it continues. In addition to the draft, UT picked up USC Trojans transfer defensive lineman Caleb Tremblay Thursday while freshmen defensive lineman Isaac Washington entered the transfer portal.

Beyond former and future football players, though, our morning update on Rocky Top actually leads with updates happening on the diamond. A baseball series is underway, as it began Thursday, and a softball series begins on Friday. We’ll bring you coverage of both events and what they mean for the teams’ respective seasons.

After scheduling updates, we have an individual recognition story to cover as well, as it was a big day for postseason recognition by the conference in women’s tennis. There’s plenty to cover even if there was no football news outside of what we brought up in the first paragraph, so let’s dive in.

Baseball wins first game of series against Kentucky – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

On Thursday, the Tennessee Vols baseball team began a three-game home series with the Kentucky Wildcats that will last through Saturday. UT won the first game to rebound from a 4-1 loss to the Lipscomb Bisons earlier in the week and improve to 33-10 on the year and 13-6 in the SEC. The two will face off again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

"Fourth-ranked Tennessee blitzed Kentucky on Thursday night in a 14-4, series-opening win at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, and Vols coach Tony Vitello had plenty to say to reporters after the game.A pair of home runs against Tennessee ace Chad Dallas gave the visiting Wildcats a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Vols responded with a 14-run outburst in the next three innings to take a 14-4 lead heading into the fifth."

Softball begins series with Auburn – UTSports

With a 35-8 record and 8-7 SEC record, the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team has another three-game SEC series this weekend. This time, they are on the road. Games are set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"Following a third consecutive SEC series win, the No. 16 Tennessee softball team will travel south to take on SEC foe, Auburn in a three-game weekend set on the Plains. First pitch for Friday’s game one is slated for 6 p.m. ET on SEC Network+."

Women’s tennis places two on All-SEC – SECSports

The Tennessee Lady Vols had two players earn women’s tennis second team All-SEC on Thursday. Juniors Daria Kuczer and Rebeka Mertena both earned the honor.
