We’re more than halfway through the month of May, and the Tennessee Vols baseball team continues to be the biggest story of 2021. Anybody who knows the history of this program knows that’s a remarkable feat, even if the news is bad for the program.

Our morning update on Rocky Top does indeed lead with bad news related to baseball, as it deals with a series loss in a major setting this past weekend. We have multiple stories on the diamond, though, as softball also made big news.

Beyond baseball and softball, we’ve got recaps of conference tournaments in rowing and track and field along with previews of postseason events in men’s tennis and men’s golf. It’s safe to say postseason ball is in full swing outside of baseball. Let’s start with that.

Arkansas takes two of three from Tennessee baseball – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

In a home series against the No. 1 ranked Razorbacks for first in the SEC, the Tennessee Vols baseball team only won on Saturday but lost on Friday and Sunday. Every game was within one run. At 39-13 and 18-9 in SEC play, UT is a half game ahead of the Vanderbilt Commodores in the East, and each team has one SEC series left.

"Tennessee will travel to South Carolina, and Vandy will host Kentucky. Before that, though, Tennessee will host Belmont in a Tuesday home finale at Lindsey Nelson Stadium."

Softball earns No. 9 National Seed in NCAA Tournament – NCAA.com

After losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Tournament semifinals, the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team earned the No. 9 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host a Regional for the 16th straight year. They will be in a four-team tournament with the Liberty Flames, James Madison Dukes and Eastern Kentucky Colonels, first playing EKU on Friday.

"The NCAA DI softball committee announced the 64-team championship field for the 2021 softball tournament. Oklahoma earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after going 45-2 in the regular-season."

Track and Field wraps up SEC Championships – SECSports

The Tennessee Vols finished tied for sixth place while the women finished ninth in the SEC 2021 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both Arkansas Razorbacks teams won their titles.

"This marks the 20th SEC outdoor title for the Arkansas men and the ninth for the Arkansas women.LSU’s Terrance Laird claimed the men’s Commissioner’s Trophy with 22.5 points, while Texas A&M’s Tyra Gittens won the women’s Commissioner’s Trophy with her 23 points."

Rowing finishes third at Big 12 Championship – Big12Sports

Against six other teams, the Tennessee Lady Vols rowing program finished in the top half of the Big 12 Championships. They were only behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Longhorns.

"Texas won all four races to collect the 2021 Big 12 Rowing Championship and an NCAA automatic qualifying bid. This is the Longhorns’ sixth consecutive Conference title and 10th in the last 12 years the event was held."

Men’s tennis to face Arizona in Round of 16 – UTSports

Coming off of over a week of no play, the Tennessee Vols men’s tennis team will take on the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA Super Regional Monday. Play begins at 10 a.m. ET.

"Last time out, the Vols advanced to Orlando with a comprehensive, 4-0, victory over No. 38 Memphis in the tournament’s second round. After surviving a few early breaks during doubles play, the Vols earned a sweeping tiebreak victory on court two from the tandem of freshman Johannus Monday and junior Martim Prata and a come-from-behind, 7-5, triumph from graduate student Giles Hussey and senior Mark Wallner on court three to take a 1-0 lead into singles play."

Golf begins Noblesville Regional – UTSports

As a No. 3 seed, the Tennessee Vols men’s golf team begins NCAA Regionals play Monday. They will take part in the Noblesville Regional in Indiana, and the tournament will last three days.

"The Vols’ No. 3 seed is the program’s highest-ever seed since the NCAA switched its postseason to the six-regional format in 2010. Noblesville, Indiana—located less than 30 miles north of Indianapolis—is home to The Sagamore Club, which is set to host the Noblesville NCAA Regional. Of the six regionals spread out around the nation, the Noblesville Regional is the only one without a host school participating, as Ball State did not make the field."
