For the first time in 16 years, Tennessee baseball will play a game in the College World Series Sunday afternoon. Tony Vitello’s team enters the event as the No. 3 overall seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament with a 50-16 overall record and the second-highest seed still playing after the N.C. State Wolfpack upset the Arkansas Razorbacks in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Lining up on the other side will be the Virginia Cavaliers, who did not earn a top 16 national seed in the tournament but reached the CWS as a No. 3 seed in their regional. UVA comes in with a 35-25 overall record under 18th-year head coach Brian O’Connor.

This is the third game of the double-elimination event in Nebraska, as the N.C. State Wolfpack beat the Stanford Cardinal and the Vanderbilt Commodores beat the Arizona Wildcats Saturday. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee baseball’s matchup.

UT will be looking for its first win in the College World Series since 2001, when it beat the USC Trojans 10-2 before losing to the eventual national champion Miami Hurricanes that year. Rod Delmonico was still head coach during each of their last CWS trips.

So far this year, the Vols are undefeated in the NCAA Tournament. They swept the LSU Tigers in the NCAA Super Regionals and beat the Wright State Raiders and Liberty Flames twice in the NCAA Regionals. Their first win over Wright State was due to a walk-off grand slam.

UVA, meanwhile, lost the first game of the NCAA Regionals to the South Carolina Gamecocks but won every game after that. They then lost the first game of the NCAA Super Regionals to the Dallas Baptist Patriots but then won the next two games.
