Tennessee football makes another cut for 2022 athlete Anthony Brown
On May 6, Tennessee football made the top 12 for 2022 in-state athlete Anthony Brown. Well, Josh Heupel still has the Vols in play for him, and nearly two months after making that cut, they have made another cut for him.
The prospect out of Milan High School in Gibson County, Tenn. now has Rocky Top in his top five. A three-star across the board, Brown stands between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighs in the range of 190 to 195 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football in Brown’s top five are the Arkansas Razorbacks, Indiana Hoosiers, Wisconsin Badgers and Illinois Fighting Illini. He announced the schools with a video Saturday afternoon on Twitter.
Despite being listed as an athlete across the board, he appears to be targeted as more of a defensive back based on the way he was described by Ryan Callahan of GoVols247. After all Callahan highlighted him meeting with secondary coach Willie Martinez, defensive coordinator Tim Banks and Josh Heupel on his most recent visit. There were no offensive position coaches named.
In college, to be fair, Brown has played quarterback and receiver in high school, according to his stats on MaxPreps. Still, based on the coaches he most recently met with and how he’s being labeled, it looks like he’ll play defensive back.
Either way, keeping a skill player like Brown in state would be valuable to the Vols. Heupel could always use more receivers, and Tim Banks needs some help at defensive back for the future as well. Simply put, a guy like Brown would provide lots of value to UT.
Currently, there are two predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, one medium and one high, and they both have Brown going to the Hogs. However, there are no predictions on the Rivals Future Cast, and Tennessee football is tied with Arkansas for the lead on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. As a result, the Vols could still be in play, so pay attention to how this ends up.
