Tennessee football makes cut for 2022 Detroit OL Jackson Pruitt
On the same day Tennessee football received a commitment from Detroit, Mich. offensive lineman Masai Reddick, the Vols made the cut for his teammate at Cass Tech High School. Once again, he is a 2022 offensive lineman.
The Vols made the top 12 for Jackson Pruitt. A three-star on Rivals and 247Sports who is not yet rated on ESPN, the product of Michigan’s Wayne County stands at 6’5″ and weighs in the range of 285 to 305 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Pruitt’s list are the Penn State Nittany Lions, West Virginia Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Panthers, Indiana Hoosiers, Missouri Tigers, Louisville Cardinals, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Liberty Flames, Charlotte 49ers, Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, and Howard Bison. He announced all the schools Friday evening on Twitter.
Given the fact that the report of Reddick’s commitment came out just over six hours before Pruitt announced his schools, you have to think that the two are somewhat connected. Both playing together on the offensive line on Rocky Top could be appealing to them.
While Reddick is more of a versatile blocker, Pruitt is specifically an interior lineman. He’s listed as a guard on Rivals and ESPN and an interior blocker on 247Sports. With Trey Smith and Brandon Kennedy already gone and Cade Mays and Riley Locklear likely to be gone after this year, interior blocking is certainly a future need for Josh Heupel.
Right now, two offensive linemen are committed in the Vols’ 2022 class, but Heupel needs all the help he can get there. His system requires the line to be able to go 10-deep if necessary, and while UT added four linemen in 2021, you can never have enough depth there.
Right now, there are no favorites to land Pruitt on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Pitt is the favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but it’s only by a plurality. In general, Tennessee football has as great a chance as anybody to land him, and having already landed Reddick, they have to have some advantages.
