As Josh Heupel continues to rack up commitments for the 2022 Tennessee football recruiting class, he now has the Vols trending for a few elite 2023 prospects. Recently, they made the cut for a five-star 2023 linebacker from Indiana. Now, they’re in the running for an elite offensive lineman out of Georgia.

Johnathan “Bo” Hughley out of Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Ga., which is just outside of Atlanta in Fulton County, included the Vols in his top eight. Listed as a four-star and a tackle across all services, Hughley stands at 6’7″ and weighs in the range of 270 to 290 pounds.

Joining Tennessee football on Hughley’s list are the Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, Ole Miss Rebels and UCF Knights. He announced the schools on Twitter.

With three Florida schools targeting Hughley, Josh Heupel will have some familiarity recruiting him. He obviously recruited against those schools while he was coaching at UCF, and UCF is one of the schools he’s recruiting against, so that’s got to be an advantage.

Elite offensive tackles are always valuable pickups, and the Vols definitely have to add more talent on that front. What stands out about Hughley is his consistently high rating as a top 100 prospect. He is ranked No. 100 on 247Sports, No. 66 on Rivals and No. 67 on ESPN and the 247Sports Composite ratings.

Recruiting is Georgia, particularly around Atlanta, is always going to be a huge deal for the Vols as well. They have one Georgia commit for 2021 and will likely add more. That’s got to continue if Heupel is going to rebuild the program.

Currently, there are no predictions for Hughley on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Georgia Tech is the favorite by a slight majority on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but his recruitment is clearly wide open, so Tennessee football should do whatever it takes to land him.
