5. RIGHT: No first place votes

Four teams received votes to win the SEC East, nine overall received votes to win their respective divisions and seven received votes to win the SEC Championship. Overall, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs are the favorites to win their respective divisions, and Alabama is the favorite to win the title overall, having received the most votes.

Tennessee football, on the other hand, did not receive any first place votes. Unfortunately, we have to admit that the SEC media made the right call with that prediction. Josh Heupel is inheriting a difficult situation, and while we have no idea what will happen this year, we can pretty much bet everything that the Vols will not win the SEC title or even the East.

Georgia and the Florida Gators, who are projected to finish second, are almost circled losses for UT this year, as is Alabama. It’ll be impossible for the Vols to win the East with those three blemishes, and they’d have to run the table against every other SEC team too, which is unlikely.

Simply put, UT is at least two years away from being able to talk about winning any division or conference championship. Add in the potential postseason ban due to the NCAA investigation, and it’s a safe bet that no title is coming this year.
