Tennessee football’s top five redshirt freshmen for 2021
6’4″ 340 pounds
There are two scholarship offensive lineman who are redshirt freshmen for Tennessee football this year: James Robinson and R.J. Perry. However, Perry converted to the position after committing as an edge rusher in 2020, so Robinson appears to have a bit more experience already, which allows him to be put on this list.
The graduate of Carver High School in Alabama didn’t see any action last year. However, a certain amount of attrition on the offensive line makes him a great candidate to work his way into the rotation this season, even if he doesn’t end up becoming a starter.
Given his size, Robinson appears to be more of a guard. Well, UT lost Trey Smith to the pros, Brandon Kennedy to graduation and Riley Locklear to a forced medical retirement. Cade Mays and Jerome Carvin are the only proven returners at the position.
As a result, Robinson has a great chance to work his way into the rotation and become a valuable part of the unit. His height may be enough for him to even play tackle at times, which is just as in need of help with the transfers of Wanya Morris and Jahmir Johnson and the injury to K’Rojhn Calbert. His best chance, though, is at guard.
