The bad news is it’s Monday. However, it’s arguably the most exciting Monday of the year for Tennessee Vols and college football fans in general Week 1 is here. Multiple teams played last weekend, during Week 0, and the season is officially upon us.

Our morning update on Rocky Top doesn’t have too much coverage surrounding the opener this Thursday against the Bowling Green Falcons. However, we do have some football personnel news that went public Sunday.

Beyond football, plenty of other fall sports are underway as well, and they had their own matches and games this past weekend that we’ll recap. Those sports include women’s soccer and volleyball. Simply put, fall is here, and sports are back. Let’s build on this excitement with our news coverage, starting with the football news.

Tee Hodge enters transfer portal – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

Less than a week out from the opener, the Tennessee Vols football program lost a running back. Power back Tee Hodge entered the transfer portal on Sunday. Hodge had one carry last year and was in competition with Dee Beckwith and Len’Neth Whitehead to be the power back this year.

"Including this season, Hodge would have a full complement of eligibility at his new program, plus a redshirt to go with those four years after the NCAA made the 2020 season a free year for all players due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He is Tennessee’s second scholarship player to enter the transfer database this month, joining quarterback Brian Maurer."

Soccer defeats Louisiana – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

Defensive dominance describes the start of the season for the Tennessee Lady Vols soccer program. UT beat the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 4-0 Sunday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the season. Rocky Top has still not yet surrendered a goal on the season and is averaging four and a half goals a game. Wrenne French, Tara Katz, Taylor Huff and Brooke Wilson all scored Sunday.

"Goalkeepers Ashley Gabor and McKenzie Haba combined for the shutout. Gabor started and made two saves before giving way to Haba, who played approximately five minutes."

Volleyball sweeps Tennessee Classic – UTSports

In a splash way to open the season, the Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team swept all three matches in the Tennessee Classic this weekend. They first took out the Texas Tech Red Raiders Friday before dominating the ETSU Bucs and N.C. State Wolfpack Saturday.

"Tennessee will be back in action on Friday, September 3 when the No. 10-ranked Baylor Bears come to town. The match will start at 6:30 p.m. ET and can be streamed on SEC Network+."
