Tennessee football: Game by game predictions for 2021 season
Saturday, Oct. 9; Neyland Stadium; Knoxville, Tenn.
Now we’re talking about some fun. Tennessee football beat the South Carolina Gamecocks on the road 27-24 last year to open the season. That was the difference in records as well, as the Vols finished one game ahead of USC with a 3-7 campaign. Of course, both Jeremy Pruitt and Will Muschamp, two Nick Saban defensive coordinators, were fired at the end of the year.
This year, both teams are bringing offense to the mix. However, Josh Heupel is more proven than Shane Beamer with already three years of head coaching experience, he inherits a team that is better than Beamer’s team, and the two will face off at Neyland Stadium. Simply put, all the advantages favor Rocky Top in this one.
That will be enough to get this team back on track. With Beamer focusing more on offense and the Vols getting better at picking up Heupel’s system, this will be a new type of yearly game that involves lots of points being scored.
Almost every matchup between these two schools comes down to the final possession. That won’t be the case this year. UT has enough distance between itself and the Gamecocks to win this one in solid form. It will be close in a shootout, but the Vols will take control and never let go late.
