It may have been ugly at times, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a lot of fireworks in Tennessee football’s season-opening win over the Bowling Green Falcons. You always expect some of those to come up in Josh Heupel’s offense, and his first game at UT did not disappoint.

With a 38-6 victory, the Vols provided lots of moments for fans to enjoy throughout the game. It started early, as Heupel’s teams often do. Rocky Top went up 14-0, scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions. Still, the highlights carried into late in the second half, even as the offense slowed at the end of the first. Despite all the miscues, they stood out.

Notable clips don’t always come on touchdowns, but those are certainly a huge factor. How did that come into play here? Let’s dive in and see what stood out. These are the video highlights from Tennessee football’s season-opening win.

Joe Milton III four-yard touchdown run

Jabari Small one-yard touchdown run

Tyler Baron sack

Joe Milton III one-yard touchdown run

Tiyon Evans 19-yard touchdown run

Joe Milton III 40-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman

With four touchdown runs and over 300 yards on the ground it’s pretty clear that the Vols’ rushing attack was the story of the game. However, they did have one big play through the air after knocking on the door at least three times prior to that.

It’s unfortunate that you can’t compress what stands out about the tempo in Josh Heupel’s offense down to a highlight. After all, most of the time, they moved the ball at will, but what stood out was how they so quickly went to the next play. We still don’t know how that will play out as the year progresses, but it’ll clearly be fun to watch.

A bigger test for Tennessee football’s ability to generate highlights is just around the corner, as the Vols will next face the Pittsburgh Panthers. If they can still leap off the screen even halfway as well as they did in this game, there will be cause for excitement down the road.
