It was a thrilling first week of games for the 2021 season, one that saw Tennessee football pull out a win and the SEC largely dominate with two major exceptions. Here’s a look at how this site did to kick off the season in our Week 1 predictions.

Record for Week 1 predictions straight-up: 14-3

Rest of gambling record: 16-13-1

Against the spread: 7-8

Over/Under: 9-5-1

So we begin the season between 55 and 56 percent, well above the 52 percent needed to generate a gambling profit. Entering Week 2, all 14 SEC teams play again, and there is one interconference game, meaning we have 13 SEC games to pick, including the Vols.

Beyond the SEC, there are two games involving multiple top 25 teams. That gives us 15 games to pick overall. As usual, we’ll predict the games in the order in which they are scheduled with Tennessee football coming last. You can make you picks for all the games on WynnBET by going here. Let’s go ahead and dive in. These are our Vols, SEC and top 25 picks for Week 2 of 2021.

Alabama State Hornets at No. 25 Auburn Tigers (SECN)

Saturday, Sept. 11 at Noon ET; Jordan-Hare Stadium; Auburn, Ala.

The first SEC game for us to pick doesn’t involve any betting odds, as the Auburn Tigers face an FCS school. Coming off a dominating 60-10 win over the Akron Zips, Auburn had the best debut under its new head coach than any other SEC program, including Tennessee football. Bryan Harsin’s team is looking to do it again here.

Getting set to face them are the Alabama State Hornets, who had a thrilling 14-13 overtime win over the Miles College Golden Bears last week. However, as an FCS program, struggling like that with a Division II program is certainly concerning.

Prediction

This is somewhat of a trap game for the Tigers, as they had the thrill of their first win under Harsin last week and then have a huge matchup with the Penn State Nittany Lions next week. However, even in a trap game, it’s impossible to lose this one. Auburn wins easily, and its offense will continue to dominate while the defense pitches a shutout.
