McNeese State Cowboys at LSU Tigers (ESPN+/SECN+)

Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. ET; Tiger Stadium; Baton Rouge, La.

Another SEC vs. FCS matchup involves a head coach who’s now on the hot seat despite being just over a year removed from winning the national championship. LSU Tigers fans have turned on Ed Orgeron after his team lost 38-27 to the UCLA Bruins last week.

What stood out was not just the loss but how LSU lost. They looked like more of a finesse team than a Chip Kelly-led program, getting dominated up front. There’s clearly a lot of work for this team to do, and playing an FCS school before facing the Central Michigan Chippewas next week may be just what it needs to gain some confidence.

On the other side, the McNeese State Cowboys come into this game on the heels of a 42-36 loss to the West Florida Argonauts. Led by Frank Wilson, in his first full season as head coach, this is a bad team even by FCS standards. However, playing hard against LSU could be something that gives this team momentum going forward.

Prediction

Remember a few years ago when McNeese State gave the Nebraska Cornhuskers trouble? Yeah, that won’t happen here. LSU could be vulnerable to some FCS teams, but this team isn’t one of them. The Tigers will cruise to a dominating victory and get back on track.
