Tennessee football: SEC, top 25 picks and bets for Week 2 of 2021
UAB Blazers at No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (ESPN2)
Saturday, Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. ET; Sanford Stadium; Athens, Ga.
Line: Georgia -24; Over/Under: 45
Moneyline: Georgia -2800; UAB +1350
Nobody is riding higher than the Georgia Bulldogs right now. After a huge season-opening win over the Clemson Tigers, they are in the driver’s seat to make the College Football Playoff. The Florida Gators are the one ranked team left on their schedule, and if they handle that, they’ll almost automatically make it, even if they lose the SEC Championship game.
Kirby Smart is set to face a familiar foe from his days recruiting the state of Alabama when he faces the UAB Blazers and head coach Bill Clark, who spent years as a high school coach down there. Former Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt had many connections to him as well. UAB is coming off a 31-0 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
While looking to win its third Conference-USA Championship in four years, this is a game that UAB could use to prove it is a rising Group of Five program. UGA, meanwhile, gets to use this as a tune-up game before the South Carolina Gamecocks next week.
Prediction
There was a COVID outbreak that hit Georgia, they are having a hangover against a solid Group of Five team after a huge win last week, and they will be looking ahead to USC. All of that suggests that they won’t cover. However, the line going down to 24 is an overreaction. Georgia is still great, and they’ll dominate and cover here. They’ll also pitch a shutout so the game hits the under.
Georgia: 35 UAB: 0 (Georgia -24; Under 45)
