Tennessee Vols morning report: Assistants, players speak ahead of TTU

We’re halfway through the week, and while Tennessee Vols fans may still be reeling from a heartbreaking loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers last Saturday, they still have to look ahead to this week’s game. Even if it’s against an FCS opponent, this isn’t the type of team that can take any foe lightly right now.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with more coverage of UT’s upcoming matchup with the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. Assistant coaches and players spoke about the week as another practice was held Tuesday. We’ll discuss who they are.

There’s another football story related to the late John Ward, the “Voice of the Vols” for 31 years. It deals with a trailer that was released, and we’ll touch on that. Finally, we’ll recap the end of the first women’s golf event of the year. So let’s dive in, starting with football.

Assistants, players talk game-changing plays for TTU – UTSports

As the Tennessee Vols football team continues preparation for TTU this week, wide receivers coach Kodi Burns and defensive backs coach Willie Martinez both spoke with the media Tuesday. Three senior players also spoke in tight end Princeton Fant, defensive back Trevon Flowers and defensive lineman Matthew Butler.

SEC Storied film features John WardKimberly Elchlepp, ESPN

The trailer for the start of the 11th season of SEC Storied was released Tuesday.  This year, the first feature, “More than a Voice,” will be narrated by Kenny Chesney and focuses on the radio broadcasters for teams. Appearances were made by Peyton Manning and Bob Kesling to discuss the John Ward, the Tennessee Vols football and basketball broadcaster from 1968 to 1998.

"“More Than a Voice” represents Lepore’s fifth ESPN collaboration with director Shaun Silva, including the Sports Emmy-nominated “The Irrelevant Giant,” which Lepore also co-directed with Silva. With an extensive professional life in film and television, Lepore’s production experience, knowledge and creativity has been an asset to every project with which he has been associated."

Women’s golf finishes first event – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Lady Vols golf program finished up the second and final day of the Cougar Classic, which was the first event of 2021-2022, took place in Charleston, S.C. and was hosted by the College of Charleston. Their next event will be them hosting the Mercedez-Benz Championship next Monday and Tuesday.

"The Lady Vols finished the three-round event in 15th place with a team score of 883, 19-over par, in the 17-team event.…Tennessee’s Hadley Walts, who was competing as an individual, posted a top-25 finish. She finished tied for 24th, shooting par with a three-round total of 216."
