Once football season is in full swing, the withdrawals immediately hit on Tuesday and Wednesday, when there usually is none. Thursday is always welcome as a result. Although the Tennessee Vols are coming off a heartbreaking loss last week and have to face an FCS school Saturday, even their return to the field is a welcome one.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with continuing coverage of that matchup, with two different coaches speaking to the media in different settings Wednesday. We’ll discuss both of them and what they said.

Beyond football, though, there’s a scheduling update for us to bring you in baseball. We’ll close with a Lady Vols basketball legend receiving another prestigious honor. Let’s start with the football news, though.

Josh Heupel talks TTU at SEC teleconference – SECSports

Three days ahead of the Tennessee Vols football team’s matchup with TTU, head coach Josh Heupel talked about the state of the program Wednesday at the weekly SEC teleconference. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“I said after the game you find out a lot more about a football team by the way they approach coming back in the building on Monday. The last three days — we just finished up our Wednesday practice — guys have been great.”"

Alex Golesh joins Vol Calls – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

This week’s Vol Calls episode saw a Tennessee football assistant come onto the scene. Offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Alex Golesh joined the set. Here’s a bit of what he said about how he’s able to call plays so fast.

"“If I wasn’t here, I’d be going through mock games and situations as they come up going into (Thursday). (Thursday) night, really sitting down, going through it again in situations as they arise and having the next one ready to go, understanding as the ball falls where it falls, and situationally you’re ready for the next one, whether it’s the next down and distance, the next situation in terms of red zone, tight zone, third down.”"

Baseball’s 2022 SEC slate revealed – UTSports

Coming off one of its greatest seasons in history, the Tennessee Vols baseball team will attempt to deliver an even better performance in 2022. To do that, they’ll have to navigate a brutal SEC schedule. That schedule was released Wednesday.

"The defending SEC Eastern Division champion Volunteers will open their SEC slate at home against South Carolina on March 18. Other home series include matchups with Missouri, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia."

Candace Parker gets her own day – Annie Costabile, Chicago Sun Times

As a current member of the Chicago Sky and a graduate of high school in Naperville, Ill., just outside of Chicago, Candace Parker is a legend in Illinois’ largest city. That was affirmed Wednesday as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot signed a proclamation naming Sept. 16, which is today, Candace Parker Day.

"Along with Parker being honored with her own day in Chicago, Adidas announced three new colorways for Parker’s signature shoe as part of the brand-new Candace Parker Collection. There are only nine players in the WNBA’s 25-year history with their own sneaker line."
