Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2022 California DB Ephesians Prysock
Even after a loss, Josh Heupel still has Tennessee football trending for elite prospects across the country, including on the West Coast. He’s now got the Vols in play for a 2022 prospect out of Southern California who could be a huge boost to the program.
UT made the top five for Los Angeles, Calif. defensive back Ephesians Prysock. A four-star across the board out of L.A. County’s Bishop Alemany in Mission Hills, Prysock stands at 6’3″ and weighs 170 pounds. He is listed as a cornerback on Rivals and 247Sports but a safety on ESPN.
No other SEC teams made Prysock’s list. Joining Tennessee football on there are the USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, Oregon Ducks and Michigan Wolverines. He announced the schools with a graphic Thursday night on Twitter.
Obviously, USC being on the list seems to be a huge advantage for the Vols given the coaching search that program is now undergoing. Michigan appearing to become stale under Jim Harbaugh is another program UT could beat out.
However, UCLA and Oregon will be difficult. Chip Kelly appears to finally have UCLA on the rise, and Oregon has arrived once again under Mario Cristobal. Their win over the Ohio State Buckeyes shows just how far they’ve come.
As a result, Heupel will have a lot of work to do to lure Prysock to Rocky Top, but his team being the only team from the South in the mix must mean they have something unique to sell. Expectations were for Ohio State to make the cut as well, so them being left off is a huge deal.
Currently, there are no favorites to land Prysock on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, although it’s unscientific, the Rivals Fan Future Cast has Tennessee football as the favorite by a plurality. As a result, the Vols should definitely be in the running for this guy, and if they somehow turn things around from last week, watch out.
