Tennessee football: Week 3 SEC and top 25 picks and bets
South Carolina Gamecocks at No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (ESPN)
Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. ET; Sanford Stadium; Athens, Ga.
Line: Georgia -31.5; Over/Under 47.5
Our other SEC game of the week pits a circled loss for Tennessee football against a likely but also must-win for Tennessee football. The Georgia Bulldogs look like the best team in the nation after their 56-7 win over the UAB Blazers last week. That was an encore given what they did to the Clemson Tigers in the opener.
On the other side, the South Carolina Gamecocks are still trying to be a program on the rise under Shane Beamer. They had a thrilling win over the East Carolina Pirates last week. However, struggling to beat ECU doesn’t bode well when you’re getting set to face UGA.
Remember in the early 2010s when this was a real rivalry? Steve Spurrier’s team got the best of Mark Richt in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. It’s definitely a different story now. Can Beamer finally reverse those fortunes?
Prediction
This spread is insanely large. Honestly, I’d say stay away from it. However, being forced to pick, I’m going against Georgia. You have to think they’re do for a letdown, even if the game is at home. The Dawgs win easily, but South Carolina makes things surprisingly interesting. A sloppy UGA offense early is why this hits the under.
Georgia: 27 South Carolina: 3 (South Carolina +31.5; Under 47.5)
