When you play an FCS team and win in a blowout, it doesn’t provide anybody with much to go on. However, it does provide tons of highlights. Tennessee football did just that in its 56-0 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Saturday.

Coming off their loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers, the Vols needed a feel-good win, one in which loyal players got a chance to shine and the fans could just enjoy big play after big play. It took a while to get going, but that’s exactly what they got out of this game. By the second half, they were rolling and making big plays on both sides of the ball.

Many of the Vols’ top moments involved four-year guys who have waited their turn to play. Ahead of their SEC opener at the Florida Gators, this is exactly what they needed for their morale. Let’s look at the big play here. These are Tennessee football’s highlights in their victory over TTU.

Hendon Hooker 29-yard TD pass to JaVonta Payton

Jaylen McCollough interception

Jaylen Wright 1-yard TD run

Hendon Hooker 45-yard TD pass to Velus Jones Jr.

Hendon Hooker to 1-yard TD pass to Jacob Warren

Hendon Hooker 1-yard TD run

Solon Page III pick-six

Tiyon Evans 1-yard TD run

A few other highlights were left off of this list, including Hendon Hooker’s 23-yard run that set up Jaylen Wright’s touchdown run, four sacks and interceptions by Alontae Taylor and Tamarion McDonald. A Harrison Bailey 2-yard touchdown run at the end of the game was also left off.

However, there were so many memorable moments that it was almost impossible to list all of them. In a typical blowout over an FCS program, tons of different players stepped up at different times and had numerous memorable moments.

If Tennessee football is able to have the same number of highlights next week against the Florida Gators, it’ll be a shockingly good day for them. That’s not expected, to be fair, but hey, why not dream? What we can say for sure is that this was at least a fun day for Vol fans and one everybody affiliated with Rocky Top deserved.
