Tennessee football vs. Tennessee Tech: Live stream, game time, TV and radio info
For the third time this season, Tennessee football takes the field under first-year head coach Josh Heupel. At 1-1, the Vols are coming off a loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers and looking to rebound in what should be the weakest opponent on their slate.
Heading to Rocky Top this week is the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, the one FCS team UT plays this year. TTU comes into the game with an 0-2 record on the heels of blowout losses to the Samford Bulldogs and the Furman Paladins under fourth-year head coach Dewayne Alexander.
This is the first time these two teams have played since 2016, when the Vols won in dominating fashion 55-0. It’s also the final matchup for UT before SEC play begins. Here is all the information you need to know for Tennessee football’s third game of the year.

Last week, the Vols suffered a heartbreaker to Pitt. They jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but for the second straight game, their second quarter was abysmal, and they were outscored 27-10 then. However, they fought back in the second half.
Despite trailing by two touchdowns for most of the second half, the Vols had two chances to tie late. However, they were stopped on a 4th and 1 inside the Pitt 5-yard line and then threw an interception on their final drive. Pitt then ran for three first downs to run out the clock.
A major storyline in the game was the quarterback situation. Joe Milton III had numerous overthrows in the first half but then got hurt. Hendon Hooker came in and made lots of nice plays, but he made a bad read on that 4th and 1 and then threw the interception.
That has created a major quarterback controversy once again for this game, and Milton’s injury status throws a curveball into the process. Heupel could use Saturday to work some of this out, and Harrison Bailey could even come into the fold.
On the other side, TTU is falling apart under Alexander. The Golden Eagles still haven’t had a winning season under him, although they did go .500 in 2019. It would be a major shocker if they pulled off the win here, but even if they lose, they’ll have a chance to right the ship next week when they begin conference play against the 0-3 Eastern Illinois Panthers.
After this game, Tennessee football will have its traditional SEC opener against the Florida Gators. The Vols will then visit the Missouri Tigers, host the South Carolina Gamecocks and Ole Miss Rebels and visit the Alabama Crimson Tide. Simply put, the brutal stretch of their season is about to begin. This is their last relaxing game, and they can’t squander the chance at a win here.
