Tennessee football rises by default in Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Defeated Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 59-28
Yes, right now we’re valuing margin of victory against FCS schools. The Missouri Tigers allowed 28 points in their win over the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. If you compare their resume to Tennessee football’s outside of that, it’s actually very similar.
Both the Vols and the Tigers have lost to one Power Five team by a touchdown. They have both beaten a MAC team that is 1-2 with its one win against an FCS program. The second win for Mizzou and UT, which came this past weekend, were both against FCS schools that are currently winless on the year.
Mizzou has a case since it’s Power Five foe, the Kentucky Wildcats, is undefeated. However, the Vols have a case since they looked way better in both their wins. With one of those wins coming last week for each team, recency favors UT in our SEC Power Rankings.
Right now, Eliah Drinkwitz’s team has a lot to prove defensively. A trip to the Boston College Eagles this week could make things interesting and at least is another shot at a Power Five win. Then we can see just how promising this program is when it hosts Tennessee football next week. That’ll help us decipher the differences between the two programs right now.
