Players discuss Tennessee Tech win – Austin Price, VolQuest

In addition to Josh Heupel, Tennessee football had four players speak with the media after the game: Velus Jones Jr., Jaylen McCollough, Hendon Hooker and Solon Page III. Hooker talked about what he showed the coaches with his play at quarterback. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“I feel like I had a pretty good showing. I have some things I can clean up. I need to be a lot cleaner in my intermediate game and taking care of the ball.”"

Page talked about what he was thinking on the interception that he ran back for a touchdown. Here’s how he described it.

"“Once the ball came out of the quarterback’s hands and I saw it up in the air, I thought I had to go get it. Once I had it in my hands, it was just muscle memory at that point. I went down there and made the touchdown.”"

McCollough talked about the defense finally coming around and making big plays. This is what he said on the matter.

"“All week, Coach (Tim) Banks and Coach (Willie) Martinez were persistent on wanting us to get turnovers and make plays on the ball. That was our main focus coming into the game today, and we executed by playing hard and fast and it showed.”"

Jones discussed his 45-yard touchdown reception in the first half that came on a 4th and 3 play. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“It was a quick in. I figured the way the linebackers were playing that there was going to be a big window for me. I made a move, got open, grabbed the ball, broke a tackle and was off to the races.”"
