Running game

There’s no way around it, Tennessee football has a major issue in the running game. The Vols’ are okay when it comes to quarterbacks running the ball. After all, against Pitt, Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton III were the two leading rushers, and against TTU, Hooker was the leading rusher. However, they need more from their actual backs.

Tiyon Evans averaged just over two and a half yards a carry this past weekend, gaining 41 yards on 15 touchdowns. Jabari Small had just 18 yards on eight carries the week before. They haven’t both played since the opener. Jaylen Wright has 20 carries for 58 yards. This is a major issue with SEC play about to begin.

Harrison Bailey

Everybody was waiting for Harrison Bailey to come in and prove what he could do better than Hooker and Milton. He didn’t prove anything. Bailey made one nice deep pass to Ramel Keyton that Keyton couldn’t come down with. However, just like Milton, he had an overthrow problem.

For the game, Bailey was 3-of-7 for 16 yards. Now, he did have a nice run on 4th and 7 and then scored a touchdown on a read option play. However, he’s not mobile, and we all saw it. With his accuracy no better than anybody else’s right now, he’s got little to sell when it comes to being the starting quarterback.
