Gambling odds:

  • Line: Kentucky -5
  • Over/Under: 48.5
  • Money line: Kentucky -195; South Carolina +165

What do we make of Kentucky? They’re 3-0 with a win over a Power Five team, but they had to hold on to beat the Chattanooga Mocs last week. Could they be overrated? That’d be good news for Tennessee football, as they could go from a likely loss to a toss-up game if that’s the case.

Mark Stoops’ team hits the road for its second SEC game of the year Saturday, and there’s a reason they are only a five-point favorite. The line would’ve been much higher had UK actually won comfortably last week, but they looked so mediocre on both sides of the ball.

South Carolina, a team that is still considered a likely win for Tennessee football but could be a toss-up, may cash in on this. After covering last week against Georgia, this game could propel them to a bit more of a national spotlight in Shane Beamer’s first year on the job. However, it’s hard to look past them struggling to beat the East Carolina Pirates.

Prediction

Really, Kentucky’s only problem has been a minus-six turnover margin, tied for next to last in the NCAA. South Carolina is at plus-one on that front, but you have to think that four games in, UK will finally take this seriously. If they do, they’ll win and cover. I’m betting on them to do that, but I’m taking the under too, as they won’t let USC score.

Kentucky: 21 South Carolina: 10 (Kentucky -5; Under 48.5)
