Tennessee football: Week 4 SEC and top 25 picks and bets
Gambling odds:
- Line: Alabama -45.5
- Over/Under: 58.5
Are the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide beatable this year? They looked mediocre against the Mercer Bears and then were seriously threatened against the Florida Gators. Their blowout win over the Miami Hurricanes doesn’t look impressive anymore either with The U getting blown out by the Michigan State Spartans last weekend.
Florida playing that game close likely scares Tennessee football this week, but maybe Bama just has a lot to work on. Well, in their final non-conference game before late November, this is the perfect opportunity for them to do that.
On the other side, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles are a horrendous team. In their first year under head coach Will Hall, they were dominated by the South Alabama Jaguars to open the season, and they just lost solidly to the Troy Trojans. They did beat Grambling 37-0, but they’ve got a lot to work on too.
Prediction
Alabama just doesn’t seem like the same team to cover these insanely large spreads anymore. They may do it in the first half, but with a freshman quarterback, they’re too prone to mistakes to keep Nick Saban happy all the way through.
Despite Southern Miss’ struggles, they should be able to cover a 45.5-point spread. South Alabama is 3-0, and Troy’s only loss is to the Liberty Flames, so they’re a bit underrated. Take them to cover. Alabama won’t score enough. That’s why this hits the under too.
Alabama: 45 Southern Miss: 7 (Southern Miss +45.5; Under 58.5)
