Tennessee football’s video highlights in 38-14 loss at Florida
There weren’t too many fireworks provided by Tennessee football Saturday as they fell 38-14 to the Florida Gators. However, the fireworks they did provide were huge ones, as they took a 14-10 lead in the game thanks to a couple of huge plays. Given the way Dan Mullen’s team controlled the ball in the second half, though, that was all that could happen.
As we get set to bring you the Vols’ video highlights in their loss, know that this is why there aren’t that many to bring you. However, the highlights that do exist all were in a glorious moment that gave Vol fans false hope that their team could actually compete in this game. That was clearly not the case long-term.
Still, both touchdowns that Rocky Top scored were memorable, and they were part of larger overall moments in the game to show that Josh Heupel may be building something. Let’s dive in and look at those here. These are Tennessee football’s few highlights in their loss at Florida.
Tiyon Evans 47-yard touchdown reception on a screen
Hendon Hooker 75-yard touchdown pass to JaVonta Payton
Ja’Quain Blakely sack of Emory Jones for a two-yard loss
We couldn’t pull one of the biggest highlights from the game, Alontae Taylor forcing a Jacob Copeland fumble that Aaron Beasley recovered to kill a Florida drive. That happened late in the second quarter, after UF had already retaken the lead. They converted a 4th and 2 pass to Copeland, who had it on the UT 15-yard line when he fumbled.
Outside of that, though, there wasn’t much else to show. The second half was a disaster. Blakely’s sack was significant because it allowed the Vols to eventually get the ball back while holding on to a lead, something they hadn’t done against Florida since 2016.
Simply put, the highlights were rare in Florida’s fifth win in the series, but Heupel showed how Tennessee football could be fun to watch the rest of the year. More big plays like what happened in this game could do wonders for this team as they try to make a strong first impression.
