Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 Georgia WR/TE Ethan Davis
A loss didn’t stop Tennessee football from still getting the attention of top recruits in future classes. Less than 24 hours after the Vols fell 38-14 to the Florida Gators on the road, they made the cut for an elite 2023 wide receiver and tight end from Georgia.
Receiver Ethan Davis announced UT was in his top 10. Coming out of Suwanee, Ga., Davis is listed as a four-star on Rivals and ESPN but a three-star on 247Sports. He is a product of Gwinnett County’s Collins Hill High School.
Joining Tennessee football on Davis’ list are the Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, South Carolina Gamecocks, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Longhorns, Kentucky Wildcats, Penn State Nittany Lions, Oregon Ducks and Cincinnati Bearcats. He announced the schools with a graphic Sunday afternoon on Twitter.
Given his size, Davis is a bit of a hybrid between a wide receiver and tight end. Standing at 6’5″ and weighs in the range of 200 to 210 pounds, he is listed as a tight end on 247Sports and ESPN and a wide receiver on Rivals.
Josh Heupel’s offensive system thrives with players like Davis, so he’d be an incredible pickup for the Vols. Although they are deep at receiver right now, they could certainly use a good bit more help in the future.
Right now, there are three receivers committed for 2022 and one tight end, but Heupel’s system requires lots of depth there, and the only commitment for 2023 so far is a defensive back. As a result, he could certainly use more talent. Also, none of the guys have the unique potential Davis has given the multiple ways he could play receiver.
Currently, there are no favorites to land Davis on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. The Georgia Bulldogs were the favorite by a plurality on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but they didn’t make the cut. As a result, Tennessee football should certainly be in the running for the Dawgs, especially with the shows their offense may put on later this year.
