Tennessee football at Missouri: Betting odds and prediction for NCAA Week 5 Saturday game
Josh Heupel is heading back to the spot that got him recognized as an offensive coordinator in the first place. In his first year as head coach of the Tennessee football program, the Vols will travel to Columbia, Mo. to take on the Missouri Tigers, where Heupel served as offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017, on Saturday.
Both teams enter this game 2-2 with two losses to Power Five schools, one SEC and one SEC. UT comes in on the heels of a 38-14 loss at the Florida Gators. Mizzou, meanwhile, comes in after a heartbreaking 41-34 overtime loss to the Boston College Eagles.
On a two-game winning streak in this head-to-head series, Tennessee football will be looking to even the overall series at five since Mizzou joined the SEC back in 2012 with a win Saturday. For each team’s bowl hopes, this is a crucial matchup.
Tennessee Volunteers at Missouri Tigers Week 5 odds
On the WynnBET Week 5 betting odds, Mizzou is a three-point favorite to win this game with the over/under set at 65. The moneyline is set at -160 for the Tigers and +135 for the Vols. Mizzou playing a tougher ACC team and playing close in both its losses while UT only played close in its loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers probably has something to do with that line.
Tennessee Volunteers at Missouri Tigers prediction
Last week, Vol fans were given a bit of false hope when they saw their team take a 14-10 lead over Florida. The Gators dominated the second half, and while miscues kept the game from being closer, Florida had their own miscues too. They also played the game with Kair Elam.
That hope has transitioned into looking at this game, which was circled as a likely loss at the beginning of the season, as a potential win for Rocky Top. Doing so would go a long way towards putting them back on track to reach a bowl game.
Our best bet on this is the over. It’s not a confident bet, but Missouri allowed 28 points to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and then gave up 34 points to BC in overtime. Given UT’s offense under Heupel, it’ll likely put up points too. The question is if it can stop Mizzou.
The game will be closer than initially thought at the beginning of the year, but Tennessee football is too banged up to hang with the Tigers. As a result, Mizzou won’t just win, but they’ll cover as well. UT will hang in there, but the defense won’t be able to stop the Tigers late.
With Eliah Drinkwitz in his second year, his team is desperately trying to prove it took that next step. Losing here will kill any notion of that, so they pull out a touchdown win in the end. Take Missouri -3 and the Over 65. The score will look something like this: Missouri 42 Tennessee 35.
