Last week: Defeated Southern Miss Golden Eagles 63-14

After getting frustrated by his team’s mistakes for two weeks, Nick Saban appears to have finally gotten through to his team. A 63-14 win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles seemed like Alabama unleashing their frustration out about almost losing to Florida the week before on a Conference USA team.

Why, then, did they fall in our SEC Power Rankings? Well, one of the other teams had to move ahead of them with an incredibly impressive win. The other team has one more win against Power Five foes than them. Dominating a Group of Five opponent isn’t going to change that.

To be fair, Alabama doesn’t have to worry about something like this. They’re still undefeated and currently on an 18-game winning streak dating back to the end of the 2019 season. Saban has to worry about how his own team reacts to its issues, not how we do, and he did a good job of that over the weekend.

Now, though, the chance to truly move up these rankings begins. This week, Alabama and Ole Miss are on a collision course in Tuscaloosa, and after that, they visit Texas A&M. A break follows with a visit to Mississippi State and then home games against Tennessee football, LSU and the New Mexico State Aggies. But these next two weeks are huge.
